Khao Yai

Overview

The Area: Khao Yai

  • In the Thai language, Khao Yai means “big mountains”
  • Although Khao Yai is not really a city, most of the activity, homes, hotels and restaurants are conveniently located along one single road
  • Khao Yai is a very famous place thanks to the National Park but the jungle is only a small part of what you can do in Khao Yai…

Local Attractions

BAT CAVES
The bat caves are a quite famous attraction in Khao Yai. Indeed, just before the sunset, several million bats leave their caves to spend the night outside; lasting more than 45 minutes!

Before that spectacle, the guide brings you into one of the bat caves. With flashlights, first you can observe the bats sleeping but the most interesting part comes deeper in the cave: strange insects, dangerous arachnids and even tarantulas!

THE NATIONAL PARK
Most people go to Khao Yai in order to discover the wild life of the jungle and they are right to do so! With a guide, you can see gibbons, macaques, does, wonderful butterflies… and you will be also very close to snakes, spiders, crocodiles and some dangerous insects!

However, if your aim is to see an elephant, it is not the good place: even if several hundreds are living here, you have to be lucky to see one of them. The jungle though offers so much though; it is a long walk, sometimes a bit hard and in the middle of impressive vegetation. Here, you will probably be dazzled by the waterfalls (more than 100 meters for the highest!) and the landscapes. Definitely, it is hard to be disappointed!

KHAO YAI PANORAMA FARM

A great little adventure and you do not need more than one hour to discover the mysteries of a mushroom farm. Once complete you will understand how mushrooms are cultivated, what kind of mushroom you have to eat if you want a beautiful skin or if you want to treat some disease and even what mushroom juice and mushroom ice cream taste like.

The policy of the company is: pick and pay. So if a mushroom pleases you, take it, ask for some recipes, pay and cook at home!

PALIO

It is quite astounding to find that this place in Thailand looks just like a typical Italian village; Palio has statues, fountains, pretty coloured buildings and is excellent for shopping. If you want to buy nice clothes, discover what Italy looks like or to take some pleasant leisure time simply strolling the streets and by enjoying Italian food – you definitely have to visit Palio.

CHOK CHAI FARM
This place, interesting and playful, is ideal for families with young children. Cowboys, milk and milking will have no secret for you anymore! You spend a lot of time with animals, observing cows in a farm, feeding veal, deer and rabbits in a zoo, watching dogs and goats during a funny show, riding horses and more.

At the end, you can buy many home-made products. Do not forget to taste a glass of delicious milk!

Wines and Vines

Vines & Wines:

PB Valley
When I arrived in PB valley, in the middle of the mountains and the vines, I was the only person here for the visit. Whatever, I did the visit alone. Is that the reason why my trip was so amazing?

First of all, PB Valley is a vineyard and a winery but also a touristic success: the place is welcoming, modern and warm at the same time. The staff is pleasant, the view nice, and the trip very interesting. Indeed, after the vineyards and the visit to the winery where the manufacturing process of the wine is well explained and showed, I felt really well-informed.

At the end, the tasting. I had the good luck to discuss with one of the two winemakers whilst tasting the wine with him!
